A Nigerian man has stirred mixed reactions online after sharing a video expressing concern over the increasing number of marriages in Uromi, Edo State.

The man, who appeared visibly frustrated while speaking, questioned why many young people now see marriage as the next automatic step in life without proper planning or understanding of its responsibilities.

According to him, the rush into marriage has become a social trend driven by pressure, competition, and the desire to appear successful rather than genuine readiness.

Man warns against going into marriage unprepared

In the viral clip, he repeatedly cautioned youths against treating marriage like a casual achievement or social status symbol.

He particularly warned young men to be cautious, stressing that marriage should not be entered into lightly.

The man argued that many couples jump into marital commitments without emotional maturity, financial stability, or a clear understanding of partnership.

He noted that owning a small house or car should not automatically push someone into thinking they are ready to start a family.

The clip, which was shared on Instagram by @lindaikejisblog, quickly gained traction and sparked heated debates among social media users, with many offering differing opinions on marriage, readiness, and societal expectations.

Some viewers agreed with his stance, saying economic hardship makes early marriage risky, while others felt he was discouraging commitment and family values.

While speaking in the video, the man questioned the reasons behind the surge in marriages, urging young people to critically examine their motivations.

Man warns of the ‘seriousness’ of marriage

He went further to explain that marriage is not just about romance or social validation but a lifelong responsibility involving sacrifice, patience, and discipline.

He advised against succumbing to pressure from family, peers, or society, emphasizing that marriage comes with serious responsibilities that require emotional, financial, and mental readiness.

According to him, many young people underestimate the challenges of raising children, maintaining a household, and resolving conflicts in a long-term relationship.

He said in part …

“I don’t know what is worrying these youths these days. Don’t you guys have sense? Everything is marriage. I don’t know what is wrong with you guys. You want to answer daddy or mummy. You want to train children. What do you know about this life? You guys should be careful. Just small house and car you buy and you start thinking next thing is marriage. What do you know about marriage? Una don marry all the girls finish. Everywhere marriage. What do you guys even benefit from marriage?”

His blunt remarks have continued to generate conversation, with some praising his honesty while others criticized his tone and message.
