A Nigerian soldier has poured out his pain and frustration online, revealing how the constant loss of fellow troops in deadly ambushes has left him emotionally drained. His message, which has since gained massive attention, sheds light on the harsh realities faced by those battling insecurity daily.
Speaking with deep anguish, he lamented the rising number of casualties among soldiers, urging government officials to allow their own children to join the military so they can experience the dangers firsthand.
He said: “The way we are losing our fellow soldiers day by day always breaks my heart. President, governors, ministers and other government officials should send their own children to join the army so they can witness these ambushes themselves.”
Second soldier voices exhaustion and frustration
In a separate post circulating online, another Nigerian soldier echoed similar concerns. He expressed fatigue and emotional exhaustion from witnessing repeated attacks that have claimed the lives of many colleagues.
“We are tired of losing our soldiers to ambushes,” he wrote, stressing the overwhelming pressure on troops who continue to face heavily armed criminal groups in dangerous terrains.”
His message reflects the growing emotional strain within the military, where soldiers often feel underpaid, under-equipped, and left vulnerable in the fight against insurgents, bandits, and other violent groups across the country.
Social media reacts to soldiers’ pleas
The soldiers’ heartfelt cries quickly captured public attention, sparking a wave of emotional reactions from Nigerians online. Many expressed heartbreak, anger, and concern over the worsening insecurity and the toll it takes on frontline troops.
Social media users also criticized the disparity between the daily dangers faced by soldiers and the comfort of those who govern from safety.
@BRC20NBT: “Inna lillahi” don plenty pass “Alhamdulilah” part really got me crying. And notice as e dey record, e dey check hin 6. If soldiers don dey fear, so who am I?”
@Abdulsalam5476: “Very disheartening. They will never let their loved ones join the armed forces. They believe these risks are meant for poor people, and to them, that means our lives are nothing.”
@DiabloChaze: “He’s said it all. It’s heartbreaking watching their colleagues fall every day while people in power stay shielded behind convoys. If their own children were in these ambushes, this country would take security seriously.”
@PhelmsBuff: “My question now is, WHAT EXACTLY IS TINUBU DOING? Na to dey wear agbada up and down and shout ‘e lo fokan bale.’”
As ambushes continue and insecurity worsens, more Nigerians are demanding accountability, better support for military personnel, and stronger actions from those in leadership.
