Nigerian man has taken to social media to publicly criticise a church after discovering that a Point of Sale b machine was being used to collect offerings during an ongoing church service, sparking debate among online users.

The video, which quickly began making rounds across various platforms, was spotted trending on social media as thousands of people shared opinions on the growing use of electronic payments in religious spaces.

Church uses POS for offering-collection

In the now-viral video clip, a church worker could be seen assisting an elderly woman who chose to give her offering through the POS machine instead of the traditional cash method.

After completing the transaction successfully, the woman was handed a printed receipt as confirmation of payment, after which the attendant calmly walked away to attend to other members of the congregation.

Netizens express mixed reactions

The footage has generated a wave of reactions online, with many netizens bemoaning what they described as the “commercialisation” of churches, while claiming that places of worship are gradually being transformed into full-fledged business centres.

@nightprogram_ said: “Church is a business. True worship is in the heart”

@Da__preye remarked: “Jesus go don tire for some churches”

@kenny_pablo wrote: “I believe payment of tithe is biblical irrespective of how it was collected, don’t forget that people no longer carry cash this days because they can easily use POS, even at parties.

You don’t have to attend the church if you’re not cool with it. No be by force!”

@dele003 said: “This has been happening for a long time. Nobody forced them to make contributions to the church.”
