During the incident, gunmen stormed the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, opening fire on congregants during the evening service. Reports indicate that the pastor and a number of congregants were abducted and taken into the surrounding bush by the attackers. According to church officials, a total of 38 congregants were kidnapped, with a ransom demand of 100 million naira per victim.
