‎In the now‑viral TikTok video, the man is seen standing outside the church with his friends, while other worshippers remain seated inside, continuing with the night vigil. He gestures towards the church fence and gate, explaining that staying outside allows him a quick escape route in case of a bandit attack. The man emphasizes his point, stating confidently that he prefers the safety of the open space over remaining inside the building during the late-night service. His caption for the video reads, “So we dey one church vigil like this. Omo, na outside I go dey o. I go dey outside,” underlining his firm stance on prioritizing personal safety amid rising concerns over violent attacks on places of worship.

‎The man’s decision comes in the wake of a recent and tragic event, the Kwara church attack, which occurred on Tuesday, 18 November 2025. During the incident, gunmen stormed the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, opening fire on congregants during the evening service. The attack resulted in the death of three worshippers and left several others wounded, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.

‎Reports indicate that the pastor and a number of congregants were abducted and taken into the surrounding bush by the attackers. According to church officials, a total of 38 congregants were kidnapped, with a ransom demand of 100 million naira per victim. Eyewitnesses described the assailants as armed bandits who entered the church compound from the bush, fired sporadically, and fled when police and local vigilantes arrived on the scene. The incident has since heightened fear among residents and congregants attending religious gatherings across the region.

‎The viral TikTok video of the man staying outside the church has since sparked discussions online, with many praising his caution and others reflecting on the broader security issues facing churches in Nigeria. It underscores how ordinary citizens are adapting their behavior in response to the ongoing threats posed by armed groups, showing a mix of ingenuity, humor, and concern for personal safety during communal activities such as night vigils.
