A Nigerian realtor lady has taken to social media to raise alarm over a disturbing case of alleged ethnic discrimination in the real estate sector after her Igbo client, who was fully prepared to pay ₦40 million annually for a luxury apartment, was rejected solely because he is not Yoruba.

The realtor shared her disappointment in a post posted by @dammiedammie35 on X (formerly Twitter), explaining how the landlord dismissed the client even after he agreed to the property owner’s tough payment conditions.

According to her, the interested client did not only accept the ₦40 million yearly rent but also consented to the landlord’s additional demand of paying two years upfront — a total of ₦80 million.

Despite fulfilling every financial requirement, the landlord allegedly turned him down due to his tribe, sparking outrage and disbelief among social media users.

The realtor expressed disgust at how ethnicity was prioritized over credibility and financial capability, calling the situation unnecessary, unfair, and harmful to national unity.

She said, “I’m a big fan of One Nigeria, but this tribalistic behavior has to stop. My client is Igbo. You’re not giving him the house, yet you’re demanding two years upfront from someone else?”

She further urged authorities and the public to condemn such discriminatory practices, stressing that tribal bias continues to hinder many Nigerians seeking accommodation, jobs, and opportunities.

The story quickly drew massive reactions online as many users described the landlord’s decision as shocking and backward. A commenter wrote, “This is outrageous. Who cares about ethnicity when the money is ready?”

Another user remarked, “This shows how deep tribalism still runs in Nigeria. Absolutely unacceptable.” Others added that similar experiences are common in the housing market, emphasizing the need for reform.
