A Nigerian [b]lady has ignited intense debate across social media after openly sharing her views on why many men no longer ask basic care-related questions during the early stages of dating.
The discussion began after a video of her remarks surfaced online, quickly gaining traction and drawing mixed reactions from users with differing opinions on modern relationship expectations.
In the viral clip shared by @Teniola on X (formerly Twitter), the lady claimed that men now intentionally avoid asking questions such as “Have you eaten?” or “What did you eat?” because they fear such conversations might pressure them into sending money.
According to her, this shift reflects a deeper issue around intentionality and seriousness in relationships, especially during the talking stage.
She argued that when a man is genuinely interested, he would not only ask those questions but would naturally follow up with an offer to send food money or even send it without being prompted.
In her words, she said:
“If we’ve been chatting for two or three weeks and you can’t even show concern by offering food money, then the talking stage is already over.”
She further explained that such behaviour signals a lack of effort and care, which she considers unacceptable when trying to build a potential relationship.
The lady added that failure to show this level of concern is an instant turn-off and often results in her ignoring the man or blocking him entirely, as she believes actions speak louder than words.
Her comments have since sparked widespread reactions online, with many users weighing in from different perspectives.
While some agreed with her stance, insisting that genuine interest should come with tangible effort, others strongly disagreed, arguing that care and affection should not always be measured by money.
One commentator wrote, “Care is not always money,” while another countered, “If he wants you, he’ll show it in ways you won’t have to question.”
Several users also pointed out that financial expectations during the talking stage can place unnecessary pressure on men, especially in today’s economic climate.
The conversation once again highlights the growing debate around expectations, care, boundaries, and financial responsibility in modern relationships, particularly among young people navigating dating in a changing social landscape.
As opinions remain divided, many continue to ask where the line should be drawn between genuine affection and financial obligation during the early stages of dating.
