She suggested that societal expectations and traditional gender roles often place women at a disadvantage within the marital framework.

Lady on why marriage benefits men more

According to her, marriage imposes a wide array of expectations and responsibilities on women, ranging from domestic duties to the physical and emotional demands associated with childbirth. She highlighted that while men are often praised for providing materially, the daily burdens of marriage and family life tend to fall disproportionately on women.

The lady questioned societal narratives that frame children as blessings, pointing out that these so-called blessings come with significant pain, stress, and sacrifice, particularly for mothers. She suggested that the framing of children as blessings masks the very real hardships women endure to bring them into the world and raise them.

Women as ‘tools’

In addition to her critique of marital labor distribution, the woman raised concerns about bodily autonomy in marriage, suggesting that women often lose control over their own bodies once they are married. She challenged the traditional expectations placed on wives, arguing that they are frequently treated as tools rather than equal partners within the relationship.

Her remarks further questioned conventional gender roles, as she asked what tangible benefits marriage actually provides for women compared to men, and what responsibilities men shoulder within the union beyond financial provision.

She said …

“It took me to get married and give birth to realize that men benefit more in marriage. You get married to a man and you become like a tool, they own your body. You cook and clean. They say children are blessings, something that is a blessing, should it stress you? Should it take you pains to bring the blessings into this life..whats the benefit of marriage to women? What does the man do?”

The lady’s statements have provoked mixed reactions, with some praising her for her honesty and willingness to speak out about gender inequality, while others criticized her perspective as overly negative or dismissive of the complexities of marriage.
