The woman recounted how her brother, who had been part of military operations in Sambisa, revealed to their mother in 2014-15 that he and his team had been arrested and handed death sentences for merely requesting adequate ammunition to combat Boko Haram effectively. According to her, this traumatic experience left deep scars on him, both physically and emotionally.

Brother’s eventual release

The lady detailed that after spending two years in an underground cell, her brother was eventually released. He later disclosed that a close friend and teammate, Temple, who had also been sentenced, tragically died in a bomb blast while on duty. The emotional trauma lingered, and she noted that she would sometimes catch her brother crying over memories of Sambisa, with him attributing his tears to recollections of the horrors he endured there.

After his release, the military reportedly transferred him from state to state, continuously relocating him before eventually sending him back to Maiduguri. A year later, he was dismissed from service, leaving the family to grapple with the consequences of the years of trauma he endured while serving his country.

Fatal accident years later

Tragedy struck again in 2022 when the family received a call from the police informing them that her brother had been involved in a fatal accident. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered that he had already been embalmed. Remarkably, the lady revealed that the only visible injury was a broken leg, with no other marks or signs of trauma on his body. She added that there were no other casualties at the mortuary where her brother’s body was taken, highlighting the isolating nature of his passing.

The lady’s narration has drawn attention to the harsh realities faced by military personnel and the enduring emotional burden carried by their families, sparking conversations online about the treatment of soldiers and the accountability of military authorities.
