A female undergraduate of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), who studies computer science, has recently shared her strong opinions regarding dating standards, particularly emphasizing the financial expectations she has for potential partners.
In a video that has gone viral across various social media platforms, the young woman stated unequivocally that she is not open to engaging in romantic relationships with men who earn less than ₦5 million monthly. Her remarks have sparked widespread discussions online, with many commenting on her candid approach to setting financial criteria in dating.

Financial considerations in dating
According to her, income is a major determinant in her dating decisions. She categorizes men earning between ₦1 million and ₦2 million monthly as "poor," indicating that individuals within this income bracket do not meet her criteria for romantic involvement. She further elaborated that men earning below ₦1 million are only suitable for casual friendships, and she may interact with such individuals only in cases where she needs a small amount of emergency money.
The lady emphasized that for any serious romantic relationship, her ideal partner must earn at least ₦5 million per month. She expects that such financial capacity would allow for a standard of living and generosity that aligns with her lifestyle and expectations. Her statements provide a clear outline of the minimum financial threshold she considers acceptable for dating purposes.
Lady insists on partners earning N5M and above
Expanding on her stance, she said that men earning below N2 million are considered poor and unsuitable for dating, while those earning between N1 million and N2 million may only qualify for friendship at best. She added that men earning less than N1 million might only be contacted if she needs minor emergency funds, such as N50,000 or N100,000. For romantic relationships, she reiterated that the man must earn N5 million and above monthly, suggesting an arrangement where a portion of his income would be allocated to support her financially while he retains part for himself.
She explained, “Those who earn less than N2 million monthly are poor. You can be earning 1 to 2 million monthly and expect to date me. I can only befriend those who earn below one million, maybe when I need emergency 50K or 100K that’s when I’ll message him. To date me, you must be earning from N5M and above. You give me N3M and keep N2M for yourself.”
The video, which highlights her frank approach to setting financial boundaries in dating, has generated a mix of reactions from viewers and sparked debates on social media regarding material expectations in romantic relationships.
