A Nigerian lady living in Lagos has narrated an unusual and dramatic encounter with a commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as an okada rider, who allegedly tried to shortchange her during a routine trip within the city.
According to her story shared on social media, the incident occurred after she boarded the motorcycle for a journey that was meant to cost just ₦200. She explained that she handed the rider ₦1,000, fully expecting to receive ₦800 in change once they arrived at their destination.
However, instead of returning the balance as expected, the rider reportedly sped off immediately after she disembarked, leaving her stunned and frustrated by what she described as a deliberate attempt to cheat her.
The woman said fate later intervened when she unexpectedly came across the same okada rider again. Seizing the opportunity, she confronted him openly in public. Her reaction quickly drew attention, as she reportedly raised her voice and caused a scene, which attracted passersby and other road users.
Faced with mounting public pressure and scrutiny, the rider was said to have broken down, pleading with her and eventually returning the full ₦1,000 he had collected earlier. According to the lady, the situation escalated to the point where she initially refused to take the money back, insisting on making a point about the rider’s actions.
She added that it was only after people around stepped in and appealed to her to accept the money that she finally agreed to collect it, bringing the confrontation to an end.
Since being shared online, the incident has generated widespread reactions, with many social media users describing it as a typical Lagos experience. Others commented on the daily struggles residents face, as well as the informal “street justice” that often plays out in public spaces across the city.

“To live in Lagos, you sef go first mad. I gave bike man 1k instead of giving me 800 change he took off. I later jam him for front. He returned my 1k with pleading after I used my red handkerchief to rub his face and I shouted ‘Yes Owo de’ I even refused to collect it and people were begging me”
