A young Nigerian lady has shared an emotional account of how she unexpectedly lost a man she believed was her future husband, all because of one issue she never imagined would end the relationship — her state of origin.

In a heartfelt post shared on TikTok by Perpettual Ejeh, she revealed that the breakup had nothing to do with incompatibility, personal conflict, or any wrongdoing from either side. According to her, the man genuinely loved her and had no issue with the fact that she is from Benue State.

However, the relationship hit a painful roadblock when his mother reportedly refused to accept her solely because she hails from Benue State. This family rejection, she said, shattered what she believed could have been a beautiful future.

Speaking tearfully in the video, she said:

“I just lost a potential husband. Guess why? Because of my state. Because I’m from Benue State. The guy is not the issue. The guy is not even bothered about where I’m from. Guess who is bothered? The mother. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know if I should be angry or I should laugh.”

She expressed how painful it was to watch a promising relationship end due to circumstances completely beyond her control. She described the emotional frustration of seeing a future she had pictured with the man crumble simply because of a long-standing bias held by his family.

Her story immediately drew sympathy from social media users, with many pointing out how common such situations are in Nigeria, where family opinions — especially parental influence — can greatly shape or destroy romantic relationships.

One commenter wrote: “Family interference really ruins relationships sometimes.” Another added: “It’s heartbreaking to see love lost because of things you can’t control.”

Perpettual’s experience has sparked fresh conversations online about tribal bias, family involvement in marriage decisions, and the emotional toll such situations take on young couples trying to build a future together.
