Brother demands higher amount

Despite her effort, the brother dismissed the ₦50,000, assuming that she had significant savings because she resides abroad. The woman clarified that she earns about ₦230,000 per month and lives in very humble conditions, sleeping in the kitchen of her employer’s home, where her personal belongings are also kept. She highlighted that her financial situation is far from luxurious, contrary to her brother’s assumption.

She further explained that she had recently completed repaying the individual who sponsored her travel to Egypt, leaving her with very limited savings. Her account of the ordeal has sparked sympathy and discussions online about unrealistic expectations placed on family members working abroad.

She shared her experience, saying …

“I came from a family of 7 and I’m the last. My brother’s wife got sick and he pleaded that he needed money to take her to the hospital. I sent this man N50K. He said he was expecting between 500K to 1 million. Where I wan see am? They think that just because I’m abroad I’m rolling in money. I’m just in Egypt, in Cairo, working as a househelp. I’m sleeping in the kitchen and my bags are also there. The money is not on trees for me to pluck. The worst part is that someone sponsored me to come here, and I just finished paying back the debt.”

Her story has generated widespread attention on social media, with many empathizing with her plight and criticizing the unrealistic expectations placed on family members living and working abroad. Users highlighted the sacrifices made by migrants and househelps who often struggle to support their families despite limited means.
