A Nigerian undergraduate student [/b]has cried out on social media after alleging that a lecturer seized her mobile phone during a lecture and demanded money before returning it.

The emotional account was shared in a viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter), where the lady disclosed that she is a 300-level student at a Nigerian tertiary institution.

According to her narration, the incident happened during a lecture when she briefly brought out her phone as the lecturer entered the hall.

She explained that she was not browsing or chatting, but merely attempted to silence the phone to avoid any distraction in class.

Despite her explanation, the lecturer allegedly assumed she was actively using the phone and immediately seized it in front of other students.

After the lecture ended, the student said she waited behind to apologise and clarify what had happened, stressing that she only wanted to mute the phone.

She claimed the lecturer refused to listen to her explanation and bluntly told her that she would have to pay money before the phone could be returned.

The situation reportedly became more distressing when she began to beg repeatedly, even kneeling down in front of her fellow final-year students, but the lecturer allegedly showed no sympathy.

According to her, the lecturer demanded a sum of ₦10,000 before releasing the phone.

She recounted that she initially returned with ₦5,000 in cash, hoping it would be accepted, but the lecturer reportedly rejected it and insisted on the full amount.

“I pleaded, I even had to kneel in front of all the final year students. He refused and said I was going to pay ₦10,000. I came back with ₦5,000 cash, he refused. I had to add another ₦5,000 before he gave me my phone,” she said in the video.

The undergraduate expressed shock and disappointment over the experience, questioning when it became acceptable for lecturers to confiscate students’ phones and allegedly demand money before returning them.

Her revelation has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the alleged action and calling on the school authorities to investigate the matter and ensure accountability.
