Repacking rice.

Lady nabs traders repackaging rice

The lady, identified on TikTok as @gracie249, explained that she came across the suspicious activity while going about her normal routine in the market.

According to her account, she noticed a group of traders handling large amounts of rice in a manner that immediately raised concerns.

She revealed that the traders reportedly sourced empty branded rice bags—commonly associated with popular imported brands—and transported them to a separate section of the market where heaps of locally grown rice were stored.

In the video she shared, the woman documented how the local rice was carefully poured into the branded sacks, neatly sealed, and stacked alongside other goods displayed for sale to customers.

She claimed the traders acted confidently and openly, making no visible effort to conceal the operation, even as other market activities continued around them.

According to her observations, unsuspecting buyers were likely paying premium prices under the assumption that they were purchasing imported rice, when in reality, they were being sold locally produced alternatives.

She further expressed concern that many consumers might never realize they had been misled, as the branded bags strongly suggested authenticity.

Reacting to the discovery, she captioned her post: “Rice sellers: Na foreign rice. Dey play,” a statement that further stirred online conversations.

Netizens groan

The revelation triggered an outpouring of reactions from social media users, many of whom criticized the alleged practice and expressed frustration over consumer deception.

One netizen @aliyyah commented: “Is this a good business??? Omo we can’t move forward in this God forsaken country. Everyone’s mindset so low.”

Another user, @OLUFEYISAYO, wrote: “Why should they tag it foreign rice when it’s not? Why exactly are you defending this daylight fraud? Omoo this country nawa oo.”

Others urged regulatory agencies to pay closer attention to market practices, while some called on buyers to be more vigilant when purchasing food items.
