A lady identified as Bukola has shared a heartbreaking account of how she was allegedly defrauded of a staggering ₦50 million by a man she met on a dating app, following intense pressure from her family to settle down and embrace marriage.

According to her narration, Bukola revealed that in 2023, her family persistently encouraged her to give romantic relationships another chance, stressing that she could not remain single indefinitely and needed to consider her future.

Moved by their concerns and hoping to find genuine love, she decided to explore online dating and subsequently downloaded Tinder, where she met a man who introduced himself as Alex.

Woman alleges she was defrauded by online suitor

Bukola explained that Alex presented himself as a successful businessman involved in building and construction projects, often speaking confidently about ambitious plans to construct an event centre and a luxury hotel.

She stated that his articulate nature, apparent financial knowledge, and consistency in communication made him appear trustworthy and serious about building a future together.

Bukola further disclosed that Alex frequently introduced her publicly as his wife, a gesture that deeply convinced her that he was committed and genuine, leading her to believe she had found a real partner to grow old with.

Over time, she claimed she began supporting his supposed business ventures financially, transferring large sums of money whenever he said he needed capital to push projects forward.

However, Bukola alleged that her world came crashing down when she later discovered that “Alex” was not his real identity and that the woman he had consistently introduced as his younger sister was in fact his legally married wife, with whom he has three children.

Speaking emotionally, Bukola said: “After he had collected all my money, that was when I realised I had been scammed. His real name is Bankole Babalola. The woman he told me was his younger sister is his wife, and they have three kids. They scammed me of ₦50 million. I even spoke to the wife then, and she agreed she was his sister.”

She further claimed that investigations revealed the man allegedly had a long history of defrauding unsuspecting women, with similar cases reportedly dating back to 2012 and 2013.

Describing the ordeal as one of the darkest and most traumatic experiences of her life, Bukola said the incident left her emotionally shattered and financially drained, warning others to be cautious when dealing with online suitors.

Her story has since sparked massive reactions online, with many social media users expressing sympathy, shock, and criticism over the incident.
