A deeply emotional and disturbing incident has surfaced from Benue State, where an elderly man was seen breaking down in uncontrollable tears after surviving a violent attack allegedly carried out by Fulani herdsmen.
The distressing footage, which has since gone viral on social media after being shared by @ChuksEricE on X (formerly Twitter), captured the old man recounting the painful ordeal that completely shattered his family and means of survival.
According to the visibly traumatized man, the attackers stormed their community, killing several members of his family and destroying the farmlands and crops they relied on for daily sustenance.
Speaking amid tears, he lamented:
“Fulani herdsmen killed my people and destroyed the crops and farmland that my family depended on for food. Now we have nothing left to eat. I live in a family house in the village which has now become a camp. There are more than 200 people staying there, all from the same family.”
He further revealed that the surviving members of his extended family, numbering over 200 people, have been forced to seek refuge in a single overcrowded family house within the village, which has effectively turned into a makeshift camp following the attack.
The elderly man explained that life has become extremely difficult since the incident, as they are now displaced, homeless, and struggling daily for food without any form of support or certainty about the future.
Footage showed him sobbing as he described the unbearable pain of losing loved ones, his home, and the lands that sustained generations of his family, highlighting the devastating impact of insecurity on rural communities.
The video has since triggered an outpouring of emotional reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing outrage, sorrow, and frustration over the continued attacks on farming communities.
One user wrote, “This is too heartbreaking. No family deserves this kind of suffering.” Another commented, “Over 200 people displaced from one family alone? This is a national emergency.”
As the video continues to circulate, many concerned citizens and human rights advocates are calling on the government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene by providing relief materials, humanitarian support, and improved security to protect vulnerable communities in Benue State and beyond.
