A touching moment played out at an NYSC orientation camp in Nigeria after a corps member unexpectedly reunited with his primary school classmate, marking their first meeting in over 15 years.
The emotional story was shared by TikTok user @lightwave_art, who posted a video capturing the surprising and heartwarming encounter.
He explained that their friendship began during their primary school days, but over the years, life led them in different directions, causing them to lose contact entirely. Despite the long separation, fate brought them back together in the most unexpected place—an NYSC camp filled with hundreds of unfamiliar faces.
According to the corps member, he was walking through the camp when he suddenly heard someone repeatedly calling his surname. Confused and startled, he wondered who could possibly recognize him in such a crowded environment.
He said:
“NYSC made me reconnect with my primary school friend over 15 years now. In a strange environment surrounded by strangers, I was scared like how did someone know my surname because he kept on calling my surname. So I looked up and boom—15 years, that’s crazy. I was walking and I heard someone call my surname and was like ha, who the hell will know my surname? It can’t be me. I just said let me look up then boom, I saw my guy. Omo I wan cry. In primary school na only surname we use.”
The video showed the moment the two recognized each other, bursting into smiles, laughter, and a warm embrace, instantly reconnecting after more than a decade apart.
Their reunion has touched many viewers online, with people commenting on how life often brings old friends back when least expected, and how NYSC continues to create unforgettable moments for young Nigerians.
