The Super Eagles have officially opened their training camp in Cairo as part of their final preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The camp aims to provide the team with an environment to fine-tune tactics, build cohesion, and ensure players are physically and mentally ready for the upcoming tournament. The Nigerian delegation has arrived in the Egyptian capital and settled into the Renaissance Hotel, which will serve as the team’s base throughout their stay.
According to team media officer Promise Efoghe, the coaching staff, including head coach Eric Sékou Chelle, his assistants, and the entire backroom team, are already on the ground overseeing the camp’s organization. Training schedules, recovery sessions, and strategy meetings are being implemented to maximize the squad’s preparation time before their first competitive matches.

Early arrivals boost camp numbers
Among the first players to report for duty is goalkeeper Francis Uzoho of Omonia Nicosia. Uzoho arrived at the team’s base in the early hours of Sunday, around 2:00am, demonstrating his commitment and readiness ahead of the training sessions. Additional players are expected to join the camp over the next few days, gradually bringing the full squad together as they enter an intensive period of preparation. The early arrivals provide a boost to the camp’s numbers, allowing coaching staff to start on-field drills and tactical sessions immediately.
Egypt friendly confirmed
As part of the team’s build-up to AFCON 2025, the Super Eagles will face host nation Egypt in an international friendly match scheduled for Tuesday at the Cairo International Stadium. This friendly is strategically planned to help the squad gain match fitness, test different tactical approaches, and evaluate players under competitive conditions. It also offers the coaching staff an opportunity to finalize starting line-ups and integrate new or fringe players into the squad before the tournament begins.
The Egypt fixture is particularly important as it comes just days before Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 opener against Tanzania on December 23. The coaching team intends to use the match to assess the team’s readiness, correct any tactical flaws, and build confidence among the players. Overall, the camp in Cairo is expected to be a crucial phase in the Super Eagles’ preparations as they aim to perform strongly in the tournament and represent Nigeria at the highest level.
