Eight University of Jos students have tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident that occurred opposite Unity Bank along Zaria Road in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The heartbreaking crash took place in the early hours of Thursday and involved a bus conveying UNIJOS students and a trailer traveling along the same route.

Fatal crash claims eight lives
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus had eleven occupants when the accident happened. Seven students died instantly at the scene, while another passed away later at the hospital, bringing the total number of casualties to eight.
According to those who witnessed the crash, the bus driver was reportedly speeding and attempted to overtake another vehicle when he suddenly lost control, leading to a collision with the trailer.
Three other students survived the crash but sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jos. All individuals involved in the crash were male students of the institution.
FRSC confirms the tragic incident
The Federal Road Safety Corps Public Education Officer, Peter Longsan, confirmed the accident in an official statement released on Thursday.
Longsan stated, “Today, 11th December 2025, the FRSC Plateau State Sector Command received a distress call at about 0230 hours reporting a road traffic crash opposite Unity Bank on Zaria Road, Jos.”
He added, “The crash involved two vehicles — a trailer and a bus. Eleven individuals were on board the bus, all of whom were students of the University of Jos. Upon arrival, seven were suspected dead on the spot and later confirmed by a doctor.”
“Another victim later died at the hospital, bringing the total fatalities to eight. Three others are currently receiving medical attention. All victims were male.”
