The first wife of Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Hon. Regina Akume, has publicly addressed reactions following reports that her husband recently married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife. The development has drawn significant public attention, and Regina chose to speak on the matter during a notable family event.

Regina Akume Speaks at Son’s Wedding Reception

Regina, who serves as the representative for Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, shared her thoughts regarding her husband’s alleged new marriage while attending the wedding reception of their son in Makurdi, Benue State. The occasion, which was primarily intended to celebrate the union of her son, provided her with a platform to address questions and speculations that have been circulating in the media and among Nigerians over the past few days.

During the reception, Regina delivered remarks that balanced both family celebration and personal reflection. Her words, captured in a video that later went viral online, immediately sparked discussions across social media platforms and news outlets, highlighting the public’s keen interest in her perspective on the matter.

The comments came just a few days after Senator Akume marked his 72nd birthday, a milestone that further underscored his long-standing prominence in Nigerian politics and public service. Regina’s remarks appeared to intertwine personal, familial, and spiritual themes, drawing attention to both her role as a mother and as a public figure herself.

“Remember Christianity Brought You This Far” – Regina Tells Husband

In her address, Regina devoted a significant portion of her speech to praying for her husband, asking God to bless him with longevity, good health, wisdom, and clarity in decision-making. She emphasized the importance of his Christian faith in guiding his life and career, highlighting that his achievements and rise to national prominence were deeply rooted in his belief in God and adherence to Christian principles.

Regina also issued a heartfelt reminder to her husband about the spiritual foundation that had supported him through the years. She cautioned that straying from Christianity at this stage in his life would not lead to genuine success or fulfillment. Instead, she encouraged him to “return fully to Christianity,” reinforcing the idea that divine guidance, rather than human effort alone, was responsible for his current status as SGF.

She stated: “I pray that the Lord will increase his years, good health of mind and body, and give him clarity in thinking and doing things right. And he should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To drop Christianity now and go for anything else, he will not be successful. So my advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ. We came all the way to the office of SGF, not through enemies but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working for us. I wish that he would come back to Christianity.”

Regina’s remarks, while personal and spiritually charged, resonated with many Nigerians who viewed them as a reflection of her values and beliefs. The speech served not only as a message to her husband but also as a statement of her faith, her understanding of success, and her hope for the continued spiritual commitment of her family.
