The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the expulsion of several prominent members following allegations of anti-party activities and what the party describes as serious breaches of its constitution.
The decision, contained in the Fifth Motion presented at the party’s Elective National Convention held in Ibadan on the fifteenth and sixteenth of November, lists a number of influential figures, including former governors, ex-lawmakers, and senior party leaders.
Party leaders defend expulsions, say move is necessary to restore discipline
According to the motion, the expulsions were recommended based on the disciplinary provisions outlined in the PDP Constitution as amended in twenty seventeen.
Those affected include Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Ayo Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade SAN, Mohammed Abdulrahman, Mao Ohuabunwa, Austine Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turner, and Dan Orbih.

In a statement released on its official social media platforms, the PDP said the action marked a significant step towards rebuilding unity, enforcing discipline, and strengthening internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The motion reiterates the supremacy of the National Convention over all party officers and organs, as clearly defined in the PDP Constitution.
It further notes that while party membership is voluntary—consistent with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria—members are obligated to uphold the principles, aspirations, and disciplinary standards that guide the organisation.[/p>
The party alleges that the expelled individuals engaged in actions that openly benefited rival political groups, including mobilizing support against PDP candidates during crucial elections.
“This decision demonstrates the PDP’s firm commitment to accountability, unity, and principled leadership. Members must align with the party’s goals or face the consequences,” the statement declared.
A senior party official added, “We are making it clear that anti-party activities will not be tolerated. Every member must respect our values or risk expulsion.”
The motion also asserts that the conduct of those removed from the party was recurrent, deliberate, and damaging to its internal harmony, rather than isolated incidents.
Meanwhile, the PDP is expected to release a full and detailed statement soon, as reactions from political stakeholders and supporters continue to pour in.
