‎A fresh wave of debate has erupted across social media after Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, hosted senators at the presidential villa, Aso Rock.

‎The development has drawn widespread attention as it comes at a time of growing insecurity and increased bandit attacks across several northern states, with many Nigerians questioning the timing and purpose of the gathering.

‎Oluremi Tinubu Invites Senators For Dinner At Aso Rock

‎According to reports, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio officially read out the invitation during a plenary session, informing fellow lawmakers that they were expected at the presidential villa for a dinner scheduled for Friday, 28 November 2025.

‎While informing the senators, he jokingly described the invitation as “like a mother inviting her children,” a statement that sparked mixed reactions among lawmakers and members of the public alike.

‎However, the announcement immediately triggered online criticism, as many Nigerians felt the dinner appeared insensitive considering the rising number of violent incidents recorded in recent weeks.

As previously reported by GistReel, armed men stormed Christ Apostolic Church in Ekuru, Kwara State on 18 November 2025, abducting worshippers during a service and throwing the community into fear and confusion.

The attackers reportedly kidnapped 38 congregants, keeping them in captivity for several days before they were eventually released on Sunday, November 23 2025, following an announcement by President Bola Tinubu on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

‎Although the victims regained their freedom, the incident reignited public outrage over the worsening security situation in the country and the seeming helplessness of vulnerable communities faced with violent criminal activities.

Public Reactions Trail Oluremi Tinubu’s Invitation

‎Nigerians took to social media to express their views, ranging from sarcasm to concern, with many questioning the relevance of the dinner at such a critical time.

Christ Love asked, “Is president Gumi aware of this gathering?”

Emmanuel Ayeni commented, “I wish I can join them 😊🤔. But they’ll buy my conscience because I will say the truth…I hope they won’t even throw me out 🤣 because my spade is a spade.”

Deji wrote, “The dinner is for them to discuss the security situation in the country. Since it has been discussed before without food, maybe this is a ‘non-kinetic method’ now.”

Nkechi also questioned, “What right or power does the wife of a president have to invite senators for dinner? I’m just asking.”

‎Despite the criticism, some observers believe the meeting could be part of behind-the-scenes consultations aimed at addressing national challenges, while others insist the government should focus more on visible actions rather than symbolic gatherings.
