Dino Melaye secures Kogi PDP governorship primary

Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Kogi State Governorship Election. The victory was recorded after an indirect primary held in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, where Dino Melaye won 313 votes, defeating his closest rival, Jabiru Usman, who polled 127 votes. Yomi Awoniyi, a former Deputy Governor, scored 77 votes, while Musa Wada, the PDP's governorship candidate in 2019, received 56 votes. The results were announced on Sunday by Ahmed Makarfi, the chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee.

Dino Melaye will be running against the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Ododo, a former Auditor General of Local Government in Kogi State, in the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11, 2023.
