Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially tendered his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a development that signals a major political realignment in the state’s governance and party structure.

The resignation was communicated through a formal letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol, and has since generated widespread reactions across political circles in Plateau State and beyond.

Governor Explains Decision to Quit PDP

According to the contents of the letter, which was obtained in Jos on Thursday, Governor Mutfwang explained that his decision to exit the PDP was taken after deep reflection on the current political realities and his vision for the future of Plateau State.

He disclosed that he intends to pursue his political journey on a different platform, one he believes will better align with his goals of effective governance and improved service delivery to the people.

The governor used the opportunity to express heartfelt gratitude to the PDP for providing him with the platform that enabled his rise in politics and participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

He acknowledged the role played by party leaders, loyal members, and supporters at the ward, local government, state, and national levels throughout his time in the party.

In the personally signed letter, Mutfwang stated, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect.”

“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process and to serve the people of Plateau State,” he added.

He further wrote, “I deeply appreciate the unwavering support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my stay in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust and confidence reposed in me.”

Explaining his reasons, the governor said, “Given the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and improved service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.”

He concluded the letter by extending his regards and well wishes to the party leadership, stating, “Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

Notably, the resignation letter did not disclose the political party the governor intends to join next, leaving room for speculation and political debate.

APC Welcomes Mutfwang Amid Speculation

Mutfwang’s resignation comes after months of intense political speculation, with several reports suggesting that the governor has been in talks with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources within the APC claim that officials of the party’s National Working Committee have already welcomed the Plateau governor and expressed readiness to support him in his new political direction.

While no official announcement has been made regarding his next party affiliation, the development is expected to have far-reaching implications for Plateau State politics as alignments ahead of future elections begin to take shape.
