Armed bandits have launched a violent raid on Sundu and Biresawa villages in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, resulting in the abduction of multiple women and girls. The late-night attack has left residents of these border communities living in fear and heightened anxiety, as they grapple with the increasing threat of criminal activities in the region.

These villages are strategically located along the Katsina–Kano boundary, a route notorious for exploitation by criminal gangs. Despite a recent peace pact that aimed to enhance security across Ingawa, Kankia, and Kusada LGAs in neighboring Katsina State, the bandits appear to have shifted their operations toward more vulnerable border settlements, demonstrating that the accord has yet to yield tangible security improvements.

The attack was highlighted on X by security analyst Bakatsine, who pointed out that rather than reducing the frequency of banditry, the new patterns indicate a geographic displacement of violent activities. “Yesterday night, armed bandits raided the Sundu and Biresawa villages of Tsanyawa LGA in Kano State, abducting several women and girls. The communities lie along the Katsina–Kano border, a corridor frequently exploited by armed groups,” he noted, emphasizing the growing insecurity along these vulnerable zones.

The analyst also questioned the effectiveness of the recently signed peace agreement, warning that it may have merely shifted the problem from one part of the northwest to another, instead of genuinely addressing the root causes of banditry and abduction. He highlighted that border communities remain largely unprotected and exposed to repeated attacks, raising serious concerns about the overall security architecture in the region.

At the time of reporting, authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the raids or provide details on ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted women and girls. Residents continue to appeal for urgent intervention to prevent further incidents, while security operatives are reportedly mobilizing to track and confront the perpetrators behind the attacks.

The latest incidents underscore the persistent threat posed by armed bandits in northwest Nigeria, reflecting both the limitations of current security measures and the need for more comprehensive strategies to safeguard vulnerable communities along key border corridors.
