A senior clergyman, Bishop Abioye, has stirred widespread conversation online after sharing a testimony in which he claimed to have fixed a serious car fault through prayer and anointing oil rather than conventional mechanical repairs.

The cleric revealed that mechanics had diagnosed the vehicle and informed him that replacing damaged spare parts would cost approximately ₦2 million, a figure he described as alarming at the time.

Instead of approving the repairs, Bishop Abioye said he decided to rely on his faith, choosing what he believed was a spiritual solution over a mechanical one.

Bishop Abioye claims prayer, not mechanics, fixed his ₦2m car problem

Recounting the incident during a sermon, the bishop explained his approach in clear terms, stressing that faith plays a central role in his response to challenges.

“When they tell me my car is giving any problem, I tell them to bring oil for me. I open the engine, that is the head of the vehicle, and pour it inside. Then I tell it to behave.”

He further narrated that after hearing the estimated cost of repairs, he prayed fervently, anointed the engine with oil, and commanded the car to function properly in the name of Jesus.

According to him, after the prayer session, he instructed the mechanics to start the car, and to their surprise, the engine reportedly responded and began working normally.

Bishop Abioye described the experience as a clear demonstration of divine intervention, insisting that it was not human skill or mechanical expertise that resolved the issue.

He emphasized that believers should not allow intimidating challenges to overwhelm them, noting that faith, when applied with confidence, can overcome situations that appear financially or logically impossible.

Social media reactions

Following the circulation of the video clip online, the testimony has triggered intense reactions across social media platforms, with Nigerians sharply divided in their opinions.

While some viewers applauded the bishop for his unwavering faith and described the incident as inspirational, others questioned the practicality and safety of such actions.

@mrboboskie: “Spiritual confidence is meaningful, but mechanical issues still need mechanical solutions. I go need this kind anointing on top my car sha”

@theyfwRayan: “Some people look up to this fraud”

@nnazoro: “As ridiculous as this sounds, it works if you have faith in God through Jesus Christ. It’s not the oil that works the miracle but your trust in God. I personally have similar experiences.”

@davidoghe: “Funniest thing is, there are mechanical engineers in the church and they’ll shout amen too.”

As the debate continues, many Nigerians are using the story to revisit long-standing discussions around faith, miracles, personal belief, and the role of science and professionalism in everyday life.
