In a candid video, he dismissed the complaints and defended the airlines, insisting that the hikes are justified and within their rights as private businesses to determine ticket costs.

In his statement, Verydarkman shared specific examples of what he recently paid for flights, revealing that he spent ₦300,000 for a trip from Abuja to Adamawa and an additional ₦300,000 for the return journey. He added that his Lagos flight cost ₦280,000 and emphasised that these amounts did not trouble him in the slightest.

Verydarkman further pointed out that the backlash is less about the actual price increase and more about affordability. He stated that he personally has no problem paying higher fares, asserting that he would continue to purchase tickets regardless of the cost and encouraging others to adopt a similar perspective if possible.

Verydarkman’s message to critics

He went on to say that those protesting against the fare hikes are merely attempting to bring the airlines down, rather than engaging with the reality of operating costs or market dynamics. He emphasised that business owners have the right to adjust their prices as they see fit, and the public should respect this, especially if they do not have alternative solutions or resources to run an airline themselves.

His words, in part, read: “I paid ₦300k for flight from Abuja to Adamawa w, Adamawa back to Abuja another ₦300k. Even Lagos flight was ₦280k. Most of you that are complaining about the airline hike, you people just want to bring them down. It is their business if they want to hike the price. If they hike the price go and buy your own airplane and start your own air business. Stop trying to bring people down if they increase price of things. Just because you cannot afford it that is why you’re talking negative about their business. Me, even if they decide to take it to N1M I can afford it, I will pay.”

The video quickly circulated across social media, sparking discussions and mixed reactions. While some praised Verydarkman for his pragmatic perspective and support of private enterprise, others criticised him for appearing insensitive to the struggles of average Nigerians who are affected by the sudden spike in ticket prices.

Many users pointed out that while private businesses have the right to adjust prices, the sudden hikes in essential services like air travel could have broader implications for mobility, economic access, and social equity across the country. Others argued that influencers like Verydarkman defending such price surges could inadvertently normalise unaffordable rates for ordinary citizens.

Nevertheless, Verydarkman remains steadfast in his stance, reiterating that those who cannot afford the fares should either accept the reality or take steps to establish their own airline ventures instead of merely complaining online.
