Social media activist Verydarkman has once again stirred massive drama online after boldly claiming ownership of the popular phrase “Don’t Play,” insisting that it has been officially trademarked under his name and legally belongs to him.
The outspoken critic made the revelation while reacting to the ongoing controversy involving Wizkid, following the singer’s claim that he is greater than Fela.
According to Verydarkman, the phrase has become widely used across the entertainment industry due to his influence, and he believes several artistes have benefited from its popularity without giving him credit.
Verydarkman accuses Wizkid of sampling his words
In a viral video making rounds on social media, he alleged that Wizkid sampled the phrase without seeking his permission, noting that many people do not realise that even simple expressions and popular catchphrases can be sampled just like music.
He argued that the widespread use of the phrase today is a direct result of his consistent use of it online, which helped push it into mainstream conversations.
He further claimed that other artistes, including Kizz Daniel, have also used the phrase in their songs and public appearances, which he says proves how powerful and influential the slogan has become.
VDM blasts Wizkid FC
Verydarkman did not stop there as he also took a swipe at Wizkid’s loyal fan base, popularly known as Wizkid FC, daring them to grow stronger before attempting to challenge him online.
He boasted about the strength of his supporters, known as the Ratel movement, describing them as fearless “nation builders” who stand firmly behind him whenever he calls out injustice.
