Popular Nigerian social media activist and online commentator, Verydarkman, has publicly criticized Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson following the controversial arrest of TikTok content creator, Eedie Bliss. The arrest comes after Eedie allegedly shared unverified claims about Mercy Johnson’s husband, Prince Henry Okojie, sparking a heated debate about social media accountability, celebrity influence, and freedom of expression in Nigeria.
Background of the Controversy
The controversy initially began in December 2025 when rumors surfaced online suggesting that Mercy Johnson’s husband, Prince Henry Okojie, had purchased a mansion for another woman who was reportedly pregnant outside of his marriage. The story quickly gained traction across social media platforms, attracting both skepticism and curiosity from fans and followers.
In a subsequent post, Eedie Bliss cited social media influencer Cutie Juls as her source and alleged that Mercy Johnson had colluded with the woman’s house help to allegedly cause a miscarriage. This claim further amplified public attention and fueled an already tense situation, placing the TikToker at the center of a growing controversy that involved high-profile figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Arrest Sparks Public Outcry
Following the viral spread of the video, Eedie Bliss was reportedly arrested and detained in Abuja after a petition filed by Prince Henry Okojie. Her detention immediately drew public criticism and outrage, as many social media users questioned why the actress and her husband did not pursue legal action against the original source of the information instead of targeting the content creator who only shared and quoted it.
Critics argued that the arrest reflected a misuse of authority and excessive intervention by law enforcement, emphasizing that social media users frequently act as intermediaries who share content without creating it, and should not be held solely responsible for third-party claims.
Verydarkman Condemns Detention
Reacting to the situation, Verydarkman condemned the arrest of Eedie Bliss, describing it as unfair, biased, and inconsistent with the standards of justice. He highlighted an apparent double standard in Mercy Johnson’s actions, recalling her previous defense of Regina Daniels’ brother, Sammy, when he faced arrest for defamation by Senator Ned Nwoko. Verydarkman pointed out the contradiction, noting that Mercy Johnson had publicly supported Sammy’s release in that case but now appeared to endorse similar police intervention against Eedie Bliss.
Call for Legal Action, Not Police Intervention
In his statement, Verydarkman urged Mercy Johnson to treat the matter as a civil issue rather than involving the police. He emphasized that suing Eedie Bliss in court would be a more appropriate and legally sound approach than using law enforcement to suppress a social media post. Verydarkman also highlighted that Eedie Bliss had clearly cited her source, Cutie Juls’ blog, in her video, reinforcing that the TikToker was not spreading unverified claims independently.
He added that the timing of the arrest, particularly with Eedie Bliss’ wedding scheduled for the coming Saturday, was unnecessarily harsh and heavy-handed. Verydarkman’s appeal called for fairness and consistency, stressing that celebrity influence should not override the principles of justice and due process.
He stated: “Dear mercy Johnson, you can’t fight for the release of Sammy when Ned arrested him over defamation/ETC then later turn around to do the same thing with your husband all in the name of defamation. There was no name your camp didn’t call Ned NWOKO then. If you and your husband feels defamed by that girl’s post, please sue her to court. And stop using the police to oppress people. To think of it, this girl’s case is different because she stated her source as cutiejuls blog. Release her and go to court. I heard her wedding is this Saturday.”
The incident has continued to attract attention on social media, sparking conversations about defamation, accountability, celebrity privilege, and the proper channels for seeking redress. Many have joined the debate, urging celebrities and public figures to respect the legal process and avoid using law enforcement as a means of intimidation.
