Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded in custody after an Ogun State court refused to grant him bail over serious criminal allegations.

The artiste was arraigned on Monday, January 12, 2026, before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, where he faced multiple charges bordering on assault, theft, and obstruction of lawful police duties.

The nine-count charge followed a formal complaint lodged by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, who accused the singer of violent conduct and other offences.

Nine-count charges read in court

According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on New Year’s Day at Portable’s bar located in Iyana Ilogbo.

Police alleged that the singer assaulted Ashabi Simple and several other individuals during a confrontation at the premises.

The prosecution further told the court that Portable also assaulted a serving police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.

In addition to the assault charges, the singer was accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million, reportedly belonging to one Ileyemi Damilola and purchased from Wally Dex Auto.

Court refuses bail, orders remand

During the proceedings, Portable’s legal team applied for bail on his behalf.

However, the presiding judge declined the request, citing the absence of Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, whose testimony was considered crucial to the bail application.

The court ruled that her presence was necessary before any decision on bail could be taken and consequently ordered that Portable be remanded in custody.

A fresh hearing on the bail application has been fixed for January 19, 2026.

Police open probe into viral video

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that it has opened an investigation into a viral video circulating on social media, which allegedly shows Portable being mistreated while in police custody.

The police stated that the matter is being taken seriously and assured the public that due process will be followed in handling both the allegations against the singer and the claims surrounding his treatment.
