Controversial cleric Odumeje has taken a swipe at Nigerian pastors, accusing many of them of deliberately refusing to speak out against bad governance in the country while at the same time benefiting from political privileges and personal favors from those in power.

The outspoken prophet made these strong statements during a church service with his members, where he expressed frustration over what he described as hypocrisy within the religious community.

Odumeje.

Odumeje chides religious leaders

During the sermon, Odumeje criticized several church leaders who, according to him, enjoy heavy security protection and preferential treatment from politicians, yet fail to speak on the suffering faced by their members.

He accused these pastors of collecting tithes and offerings while ignoring issues such as hunger, unemployment, insecurity, and economic hardship affecting ordinary citizens.

Odumeje argued that spiritual leaders who mount the pulpit have a responsibility to address the realities facing their congregations, insisting that silence in the face of worsening governance amounts to complicity and moral failure.

Odumeje questions credibility of some pastors

He also questioned the credibility and spiritual authority of some pastors who openly boast about their position in the church yet fail to demonstrate any genuine spiritual impact in the lives of their members.

According to him, flashy titles and public recognition mean nothing if a pastor cannot speak truthfully, perform meaningful works, or use his influence to challenge injustice.

His words in part …

“Bad government they can never talk about it. Fake people. I don move by people, I follow you based on your spiritual attitude. And everyone who stands on the altar in this government, you must talk. You guys are the ones causing it, giving pastors a lot, with police and Mopols to guard them. But they will give you olive oil and sticker and tell you to go home. You trek home, while he goes home with police. One miracle you have never done in your church, but you’d be bragging that you are Bishop.,..taa. go and sit down.”

His comments have since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether religious leaders should speak up more on political issues or remain focused solely on spiritual matters.
