Nollywood actress, Nkechi Sunday Blessing, has opened up about one of the most shocking and challenging moments she faced at the very beginning of her acting career, shedding light on the obstacles newcomers often encounter in the Nigerian film industry.
During a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, Nkechi shared candidly how, as a young and aspiring actress, she was confronted with scripts that were not only outrageous but also extremely inappropriate, testing her personal values and sense of professionalism.

She recalled one particular script that required her to perform a scene involving intimacy with a dog, a proposal she found completely unacceptable. Nkechi explained that she immediately rejected it, emphasizing that starting her career with such a role would have permanently labeled her in a negative light in the eyes of the public.
“Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people would associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies,” she said.
Nkechi highlighted that such roles could have created a lasting negative perception, potentially undermining her career before it even began. Despite the pressure and the lure of quick exposure, she remained steadfast in her decision to uphold her principles and maintain her personal integrity.
“So, I rejected that script. But immediately I threw it down, so many girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today,” Nkechi added, pointing out that many other young actresses accepted the offer, but few sustained a long-term presence in the industry as she has.
The actress also shared that another script she received required her to perform an extreme act on screen. She again rejected it immediately, reasoning that such a choice would have damaged her image and limited her opportunities for respectable roles in the future.
After declining the controversial scripts, Nkechi’s career path took a positive turn when she met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who recognized her potential. Duru later offered her a role in the movie “Through The Fire” produced by Imem Isong, which Nkechi describes as the true beginning of her Nollywood journey and the foundation of her successful acting career.
Through sharing her early career experiences, Nkechi Blessing hopes to inspire aspiring actors and actresses to hold onto their values, even when faced with pressure to accept roles that compromise their principles. Her story highlights the importance of integrity, resilience, and careful career choices in the entertainment industry.

When they gave me the script for the movie that was suppose to be my first, it said I had to sleep with a dog. I rejected it and a lot of other ladies rushed the offer.
