Media personality, Nedu has sparked widespread discussion after making a controversial claim suggesting that some young women intentionally get pregnant as a means of gaining weight.
Speaking during a segment on his show on Max 102.3 FM, Nedu alleged that certain “very slim girls” resort to pregnancy purely to achieve a fuller and more attractive body shape, taking advantage of the natural weight gain that comes with pregnancy.

According to him, the primary motivation behind the pregnancy is the weight gain rather than the intention to keep the baby. Nedu went further to claim that some of these women allegedly end the pregnancy once they have attained the body size they desire.
Explaining the trend, he stated: “The one way girls dey do now for Nigeria… some very slim girls, I’ve heard girls do it. When they want to add weight, what they do is they get pregnant. Once they get pregnant, dem don come add weight — pregnancy weight — then they will now terminate the pregnancy.” His remarks immediately stirred reactions from listeners and viewers online.
The comments generated mixed responses across social media platforms. Many Nigerians expressed disbelief and criticized the statement as irresponsible, noting that making such claims without evidence could influence or mislead young people. Others argued that even if the practice exists, it should not be generalized or spoken about lightly on public radio.
One online user wrote: “This is reckless to say on air. If true, this is very dangerous for girls.” Another user added: “I no know if this is real, but spreading it like fact dey scary.”
Despite the backlash, the conversation has continued to trend, with some people debating whether the claim might be rooted in isolated cases, while others insist it is nothing more than a controversial opinion presented as fact.
