The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa “Mohbad” Aloba has reiterated their call for a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his untimely death, while also issuing specific directives to his widow, Wunmi, regarding the use of the Aloba surname. The family has made it clear that Wunmi is not to use the Aloba name publicly or privately until a court-ordered DNA test conclusively confirms the paternity of her son, Liam.
In a statement jointly signed by the head of the family, Omolayo Aloba, and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family stressed that it remains steadfast in demanding a comprehensive probe into Mohbad’s death. The family emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in the investigation, calling on authorities to ensure that all facts and circumstances surrounding the singer’s demise are fully uncovered and made public.

The statement also announced that Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq. has been appointed as the family’s sole legal representative for all estate and DNA-related matters, while Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN will continue to represent the family in dealings with investigative authorities and other legal processes. Additionally, three family-appointed administrators—Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba—have been designated to manage Mohbad’s estate, with one position provisionally reserved for Wunmi, contingent upon the DNA test confirming Liam as Mohbad’s biological child.
The family emphasized that no statutory or customary marriage was ever formally recognized between Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo. Consequently, they instructed Wunmi to immediately cease using the surname Aloba in all public records, social media platforms, official documents, or any private matters until legal confirmation of paternity is obtained. This directive underscores the family’s commitment to preserving the integrity of Mohbad’s legacy and estate while ensuring that any claims made by Wunmi are substantiated by lawful documentation.
According to the Aloba family, if the DNA results verify that Liam is indeed Mohbad’s son, both Wunmi and Liam will be formally recognized in the estate administration process, and appropriate legal and financial considerations will be extended to them in line with Nigerian inheritance laws and customary practices.
Mohbad, who tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, at the young age of 27, remains a focal point of public attention more than a year later, as the family continues to advocate for justice, accountability, and clarity surrounding the events leading to his death. The Alobas are committed to ensuring that every aspect of his estate and legacy is handled with transparency, fairness, and respect for the singer’s memory while maintaining vigilance over any claims made by external parties.
