Fresh controversy has erupted in the ongoing dispute between the family of the late singer Mohbad and his widow, Omowunmi, as the singer’s father released a new statement questioning the legitimacy of their union and the circumstances surrounding their relationship before his son’s death.
In an emotional recorded message making the rounds on social media, Mohbad’s father alleged that the relationship between his son and Omowunmi was not as smooth as it appeared to the public, insisting that there were unresolved issues which eventually affected plans to formalise their union.
He reiterated that he never witnessed or approved any traditional marriage rites between his son and Omowunmi, stressing that what took place was merely an introduction ceremony, not a full traditional wedding as being claimed in some quarters.
According to him, no formal wedding ever took place and no bride price was paid, questioning how anyone could describe the relationship as a completed marriage without the involvement and consent of the family head.
Speaking further, he narrated how he was only invited to what he described as an introductory visit between both families and not a marriage ceremony.
“When my son was alive and Cynthia claimed to be pregnant, I felt it was important to meet her people properly. When we got there, I saw many members of her family and we did only an introduction. I met my son’s supposed in-law for the first time that day. There was no traditional wedding and nobody informed me that such a thing happened. So who collected the bride price?” he asked.
The singer’s father also made a shocking allegation, claiming that Mohbad at some point decided to withdraw plans to marry Omowunmi after suspecting her of infidelity.
He alleged that the late singer told him he caught her with another man and immediately informed his close friend, Myson, as well as his elder sibling and mother before eventually telling him directly.
“He said he caught her with another man. He told Myson, his elder brother and his mother before coming to tell me. That was why he decided to cancel the marriage plans,” the grieving father claimed.
According to him, these troubling allegations are part of the reasons he has been demanding a DNA test to establish the true paternity of Mohbad’s son.
“And that is one of the major reasons why I am asking for DNA,” he added.
Wunmi takes legal action to safeguard Mohbad’s estate
Meanwhile, the controversy takes a legal turn as Omowunmi has reportedly filed legal processes to protect Mohbad’s estate from unauthorised claims and interference, citing concerns over safeguarding what belongs to her son.
This legal move has further deepened tensions between both families, as questions of custody, inheritance, and legitimacy continue to dominate public discourse.
Earlier, some members of Mohbad’s family were said to have warned Omowunmi against using their surname in any official capacity until the issue of paternity is formally addressed through scientific testing.
They also insisted once again that no valid statutory or customary marriage ever took place between the late singer and his partner, a claim that now fuels the growing court battle looming ahead.
As the drama unfolds, many fans and supporters of the late singer are calling for a peaceful resolution, urging both families to allow the courts to determine the truth and ensure justice for the child at the centre of the storm.
