Lagos Police arrest Peller for reckless driving

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely recognized as Peller, following the circulation of a viral video that captured him driving recklessly and engaging in dangerous behavior moments before being involved in a serious road accident.

The incident, which took place on Sunday, December 14, 2025, was live-streamed on social media and quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention and concern from both the public and road safety authorities. The Lagos State Police Command described the incident as a severe breach of public safety and a reckless act that endangered not only Peller’s life but also the lives of other road users on the busy streets of Lagos.

Following the incident, Peller, aged 20, was promptly taken into police custody to prevent further risk and to facilitate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The case has been formally transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where investigators are conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the crash, including reviewing the livestream footage and interviewing witnesses present at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that all findings from the investigation will be made public and assured that Peller will face appropriate charges before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with Nigerian law. Police warns content creators

In response to the viral video and subsequent arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the general public. He urged citizens to desist from promoting or engaging in any form of reckless, dangerous, or unlawful behavior for the sake of online attention, noting that such conduct could have fatal consequences.

CP Jimoh stressed that the Lagos State Police Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and enforcing traffic regulations strictly across the state. He emphasized that acts like those demonstrated by Peller would not be tolerated and that the full weight of the law would be applied to offenders who endanger themselves and others on the roads.
