The accident occurred on Monday around noon at Makun, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest highways. According to preliminary reports, Anthony Joshua was travelling in a Lexus SUV with Lagos registration number KRD 850 HN when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck, resulting in a serious crash involving multiple occupants in the vehicle and the immediate area.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Mr. Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the incident in an official statement issued in Abeokuta. He noted that the crash involved two vehicles, and that operatives from the Sagamu Unit Command of the FRSC responded promptly after receiving an emergency distress call from witnesses at the scene.

According to the FRSC, preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by a combination of excessive speed and wrongful overtaking. Reports suggest that the driver of Joshua’s vehicle attempted an overtaking maneuver from the right side and collided with the stationary truck, leading to the unfortunate outcome. “Five people were involved in the crash. One person sustained injuries, two were unhurt, while two persons lost their lives,” Odunsi said. The FRSC further confirmed that Anthony Joshua himself sustained injuries in the incident but was immediately attended to and taken to a nearby hospital by his security team for medical evaluation and treatment.

The FRSC spokesperson also added that the bodies of the deceased were promptly removed and taken to the morgue, and that the obstruction on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway caused by the accident had been cleared, allowing normal traffic flow to resume. The Ogun State Police Command corroborated the reports, with its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirming that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Livewell Hospital Morgue in Sagamu for post-mortem procedures and identification.

In response to the tragic news, Jake Paul took to social media to share his thoughts and condolences. Expressing concern for the victims, their families, and Anthony Joshua, Paul emphasized the value of life over sport, noting the importance of health, safety, and human life above all else. “Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ, and everyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident,” Paul wrote, showing solidarity with the boxer and the victims of the crash.

He further honored the memories of the deceased, mentioning them by name: “RIP Sina Ghami and Kevin ‘Latif/Latz’ Ayodele. My thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and AJ.” The heartfelt message from Jake Paul resonated with fans and followers worldwide, highlighting both the personal impact of the accident on those involved and the broader sense of loss felt by the global boxing community. The incident continues to spark discussions about road safety, the responsibilities of drivers, and the need for caution, especially for high-profile individuals whose movements often attract public attention.

As investigations continue, Nigerians and boxing enthusiasts alike have been urged to remain compassionate and focus on supporting the victims’ families, while authorities work to determine the exact causes of the crash and prevent future tragedies on the country’s highways.[/p>
