Popular Nigerian gospel musician, Bunmi Adeoye Akinnanu, widely known by her stage name Omije Ojumi, has sadly passed away, leaving the gospel music community and her fans in deep mourning.

According to available information, the revered gospel singer died on Tuesday after battling a prolonged illness linked to a severe leg ailment. Her passing comes several months after she publicly appealed to fellow believers for prayers and divine healing, a request that drew widespread sympathy and intercession from fans, colleagues, and church members across the country.

In 2025, a video of Akinnanu surfaced online from a church service held at G. F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State. The emotional footage, which quickly went viral on social media, showed the gospel singer seated during the service with her affected leg stretched out while intense prayers were offered on her behalf by the congregation.

During the service, a cleric disclosed that Omije Ojumi had been experiencing persistent and unusual bleeding from the affected leg, a condition that had reportedly caused her significant pain and discomfort. The revelation prompted heartfelt intercessory prayers as worshippers joined in seeking divine intervention for her healing.

Akinnanu rose to prominence in the early 2000s after making the bold decision to leave a successful career in the banking sector to fully pursue her calling in gospel music. Her stage name, Omije Oju Mi (translated as Tears of My Eyes), was derived from the title of her debut album, which resonated deeply with listeners and brought her widespread recognition within and beyond the church community.

Following the success of her debut project, she went on to release several impactful albums, including Dabira, Alatilehin, Ma Sunkun Mo, and Testimony. Through these works, she ministered to countless lives with songs that reflected deep spirituality, emotional depth, and unwavering faith. She was also the leader and founder of the Omije Ojumi Gospel International Music Band.

On the academic front, Akinnanu studied Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at Lagos State University (LASU) after attending Lagos State Polytechnic. She reportedly worked in the banking industry for over a decade before fully transitioning into gospel music, a move many described as a sacrifice driven by purpose and conviction.

Known for her unique blend of traditional and contemporary gospel sounds, Omije Oju Mi built a loyal following over the years with her inspirational songs centered on faith, perseverance, hope, and trust in God. Her death marks a significant loss to the Nigerian gospel music community, with many describing her legacy as one of devotion, impact, and heartfelt worship.
