Controversial comedian, Deeone, has reacted publicly after fashion entrepreneur and designer, Veekee James, mentioned him during a recent cooking podcast, a comment that quickly reignited conversations across social media and drew mixed reactions from fans.
The response followed what many viewers interpreted as a subtle shade from Veekee James, where she implied that intelligent people do not take the comedian seriously, a remark that sparked debates and renewed interest in their past connection.
Reacting after the podcast clip gained widespread traction online, Deeone disclosed that he and Veekee James had a brief romantic relationship shortly after his return from Big Brother Naija in 2018.
According to the comedian, he was surprised his name resurfaced, noting that he had moved on long ago and did not understand why Veekee James would reference him years later.
He stressed that there is no lingering animosity between them, insisting that their fallout was not due to hatred or betrayal but rather incompatibility.
However, Deeone explained that their relationship eventually ended because of personality differences, which he believes made it difficult for them to coexist harmoniously.
Describing Veekee James as a kind and hardworking woman, the comedian admitted that he struggled with what he perceived as controlling behaviour during their time together.
“For me personally, I don’t like being controlled. There is no bad blood between us, and it’s not like I didn’t treat her well. What I’m saying is not new. People in the industry already know, even her husband, Mr Femi James, knows,” Deeone said.
He further explained that he dislikes being constantly told what to do or being sent on errands, adding that this issue repeatedly caused friction between them while they were together.
Deeone emphasised that he has long moved on from the relationship and harbours no resentment, stating that his decision to speak out was solely because Veekee James mentioned his name, reopening a chapter he believed was closed.
Since the revelation, reactions online have been divided. Some social media users criticised Deeone for revisiting old issues, accusing him of oversharing and attempting to stir controversy.
Others, however, defended him, arguing that he had every right to clarify his side of the story since his name was publicly brought into the conversation.
Meanwhile, several fans praised Veekee James for her success, composure, and stable marriage, urging both parties to focus on their present lives rather than past relationships.
